Glass Door Refrigerator / Visi Cooler for supermarket
The dairy wall and beverage run: full-height visi coolers that hold milk, curd, paneer and drinks on lit shelves that shoppers serve themselves from.
Most chilled sales in a supermarket are self-service, so the cabinet has to sell as well as cool. A full-height glass-door merchandiser puts every facing in view, LED lighting keeps the bottom shelf readable, and a closed door holds cold far better than an open-front chiller in a store that may not be fully air-conditioned. Dairy is the most temperature-sensitive group on the floor and turns over fastest, so it earns its own cabinets set colder than the beverage run. Double-glazed, anti-fog doors matter in a store whose shutter stays open to monsoon air.
How to configure it
- Run dairy coolers at the cold end of the band, about +2 to +4 °C, and beverage coolers a little warmer; do not try to serve both from one thermostat setting.
- Specify double-glazed, anti-fog doors if the store's entrance is open to the street; fogged glass hides stock and sends drips onto the floor.
- Leave the clearance the maker specifies above and behind each cooler; a tight row against a wall ends up breathing its own hot air.
- Give every cooler its own socket and, where the supply sags, a correctly rated stabiliser instead of a shared extension board.
- Keep a thermometer on the top shelf near the door, where the cabinet runs warmest, and record readings at opening and closing.
Mistakes to avoid
- Stacking stock above the load line or hard against the rear wall, which blocks the airflow and leaves the front facings warm.
- Placing coolers at the entrance in afternoon sun, where glass heat gain and hot street air keep the compressor running nonstop.
- Loading warm crates straight from the delivery vehicle during the evening rush, then finding the dairy shelf reading 9 °C an hour later.
