Refrigerated Countertop Display Case Guide
A refrigerated countertop display case is a glass-fronted case that sits on an existing counter and keeps ready-to-serve food chilled and on view. Typical uses are salads, cut fruit, sandwiches, wraps, desserts and cold starters. Curved front glass gives the customer an unbroken view, and the staff side usually has sliding doors for serving and restocking. The aim is food that looks fresh and stays at a safe temperature through a service. Display cases run in the +4 to +10 °C range. High-risk food should sit at the cold end, at or below 5 °C, and come out of the case for overnight storage.
Best for
- Cafés and QSR counters selling grab-and-go salads, sandwiches and cut fruit.
- Hotel breakfast and buffet counters showing chilled items to guests.
- Juice bars and dessert counters displaying ready portions.
- Corporate canteens and food courts with a short chilled menu on show.
Check before you buy
- Set it by food risk: dairy-based items, cut fruit, cooked rice and meat salads need 5 °C or below. Less perishable items tolerate the warmer end. Check the warmest tray with a probe, not just the display.
- Display time: a display case keeps food cold. It isn't long-term storage. Display only what you expect to sell in the service, and move the rest to a reach-in at close.
- Counter fit: measure counter length, depth and strength, and confirm which side staff serve from. Keep the case away from direct sun, ovens and AC vents, which upset its airflow.
- Humidity and fogging: in the monsoon, warm humid air fogs cold glass. Keep sliding doors closed between servings and choose a case with good glass and airflow.
- Cleaning and power: clean the glass, trays and drip areas daily. Give it an earthed socket with voltage protection, and plan for power cuts by moving high-risk food to a reach-in.
