Household-type appliances use classes such as SN, N, ST and T. Class T, the tropical class, covers ambient temperatures up to 43 °C under IEC 62552. A cabinet rated only for a temperate class may hold temperature in an air-conditioned room but struggle badly in a hot kitchen or non-AC shop.
Commercial display cabinets are often tested under a separate standard with numbered climate classes that combine a test-room temperature with a humidity level. Higher classes represent hotter or more humid conditions, closer to many Indian shops in summer and monsoon.
When comparing cabinets, check which class and standard the rating refers to, and match it to the worst conditions at your site, not the average. A kitchen next to a tandoor or a shop with a glass front facing west can easily exceed 40 °C on summer afternoons.
