Most commercial refrigeration in India is serviced either on call, paying per visit, or under an AMC. An AMC usually starts after the manufacturer's warranty ends, although some buyers take one alongside it to cover routine maintenance. The contract sets out how many preventive maintenance visits are included per year, what each visit covers, how quickly the provider will respond to breakdowns, and which parts and repairs are included or excluded.
AMCs come in two broad types: comprehensive, which includes most parts, and labour-only or non-comprehensive, which covers visits and labour but charges parts separately. The details matter far more than the label. Read the exclusions, the response time commitment, whether gas top-ups and compressors are covered, and what happens if the unit must be taken to a workshop.
A restaurant group with eight outlets in Hyderabad might sign a single AMC covering all its reach-ins, undercounters and freezers, with quarterly condenser cleaning and a defined response time for breakdowns, so each outlet manager knows whom to call and what it will cost.
